TENNESSEE SOUTHERN RAILROAD IN PACT WITH LOUISIANA PACIFIC FOR DISTRIBUTION SITE IN MT. PLEASANT, TN. December 30, 2006
Boca Raton, Fla. -- Short line railroad owner Patriot Rail Corp. announced today its Tennessee Southern Railroad has entered into a long-term agreement with Louisiana Pacific Corporation (NYSE: LPX) to operate a nine-acre distribution center in Mt. Pleasant, Tennessee.
Patriot Rail Corp. was formed last year by Gary O. Marino, co-founder and former chairman, president and CEO of RailAmerica, Inc. (NYSE:RRA), to acquire short line and regional freight railroads. Tennessee Southern was purchased by Patriot in November 2006. Marino said the Mt. Pleasant facility has the capacity to handle in excess of three million board feet of building materials.
Under the agreement, Tennessee Southern Railroad unloads the building materials at its transload facility at Mt. Pleasant and then inventories the product until it is released and loaded on truck for delivery. The TSRR has additional property along its right of way and has access to several industrial parks ideally suited for transloading.
The TSRR, headquartered in Mt. Pleasant, operates in Middle Tennessee and Northwestern Alabama. It interchanges rail traffic with CSX Transportation at Natco, Tennessee and with inland barge lines through its port facility at Florence, Alabama. The Tennessee Southern Railroad principally hauls wood products, fertilizer, potash, slag, rolled steel, plastics, roofing products, soapstone, and liquified natural gas. It currently has a staff of 28 employees and operates a fleet of eighteen locomotives.
